A Prescription for Quality
A Prescription for Quality
(PDF )
The rise in prescription
drug expenditures, debates over the benefits and costs of new
medicines, and extensive press coverage of these issues continue
to bring questions of prescription drug policy to the forefront
in BC. Prescription drugs are the third largest and fastest
growing component of BC health expenditures. In some cases,
additional spending on prescription drugs is a wise investment;
in others, it is not cost-effective.
The BCMA's policy paper,
A Prescription for Quality, focuses on six areas of
importance: prescription drug expenditures, BC's PharmaCare
program, the promotion of prescription drugs (to both doctors
and patients), information technology, professional roles in
prescribing, and the National Pharmaceuticals Strategy.
