| Membership in the BCMA
Now is the right time to join the BCMA
The BC Medical Association is the
professional association representing more than 95% of all
doctors currently in British Columbia. With our
11 000
physician membership we are the voice of the profession on
medical, political and advocacy fronts.
The Association is dedicated to protecting
the professional and personal interests of our members. We
have exclusive negotiating rights to negotiate terms and
conditions of service on behalf of all doctors in the
province.
Our campaigns help define policy on many professional, medical
and ethical issues. We have presented doctors' views on the
provincial Pharmacare program, Primary Care reforms, and to
the provincial Standing Committee on Health; and nationally
have presented doctors' views on system change to the Romanow
Commission and the Kirby Commission.
Our mission
statement provide more information about the BCMA.
Membership Benefits
Most doctors and medical students already belong to the BCMA
and are able to enjoy the many benefits of membership.
Protecting doctors' professional
interests
The BCMA represents doctors from all branches of medicine
all over the province of British Columbia. It is a voluntary
association with more than 95% of physicians in its membership.
By becoming a member of the BCMA, membership is automatic
in the Canadian Medical Association, found online at
www.cma.ca
Keeping members up to date with clinical
and other medical issues
Members are able to keep abreast of the latest developments
through their free BC Medical Journal and Canadian Medical
Journal (both in print and online). In addition, during negotiations
and other important issues of interest to doctors, the membership
is able to keep updated via regular communication from the
president of the Association.
Doctors get to have their say
The BCMA is a democratic organization and members are encouraged
to become more actively involved. The extent of involvement
can range from completing periodic membership surveys, attending
local medical society meetings and the annual BCMA meeting
held in June each year, participating in BCMA forums held
a couple of times each year, or becoming your local representative
on the Board of the BCMA.
